“ART IN BOXES 2018” -HOLIDAY GROUP EXHIBITION-

AG Gallery is pleased to announce that its 9th annual holiday gift art show, “Art In Boxes 2018” with the theme of “Give the gift of art!” is starting on this Saturday, December 1st, 2018.

ART IN BOXES is an annual group exhibition at AG Gallery which the curator carefully selects various artworks from around the world for holiday gift ideas. This year, the exhibition features 20+ local and international artists. Artworks that are included in this show are culptures, printmaking, paintings, drawings, ceramics, potteries, original greeting cards, jewelries, ornaments and more.

In this show, AG Gallery exhibits about a hundred of art pieces from many local and international artists. AIB18 opens on December 1, 2018 and it’s a bit early for Christmas though, we’ll add more artworks almost every other week from now.

This is the great opportunity for that if people are looking for extraordinary and one-of-a-kind holiday gifts this year or would like to give something special to someone special.

AG Gallery is pleased to announce our new exhibition with Sirikul Pattachote, Flower Offerings, opening on Sunday, September 1, 2018. Pattachote is a Thai artist living and working in New York City. In May 2016, Pattachote had her solo exhibition Things Are Actually Not Falling Apart with AG Gallery featuring her flower and female portrait paintings. In the exhibition we focused on finding peaceful unity within the laws of living a life through the artist’s original watercolor paintings and drawings. Flower Offerings is her second solo exhibition at AG Gallery.

Symbolic offerings are common practice made in Buddhism for multiple reasons but mainly the fundamental importance of offering for the offerer is the act and mind of the offering itself, more than the value of object that is offered. Such material offerings typically involve objects such as food, fruits, water or drinks, incense, candles, and flowers. Although it is visible material that is offered, the main focus of such practice is the mental state of and the action of offering, the material is therefore usually something simple and often from the nature. In this exhibition Pattachote and gallery attempt to create the whole experience of the offerings utilizing visual art and sound. It is possible to send out positive energy from one to others; an energy that receivers can convert to an encouragement for anything that they might need.

Pattachote is one of the artists who has been utilizing painting as a part of her meditative practice. From the material she uses, such as paper, to the medium she uses, such as inks and paints that she prepares for her work, to the subject of her works which is cut flowers mostly prepared and offered to the buddha and her beloved people. In this exhibition the artist also focuses on the meanings of the flowers which she selects and paints in her work.

AG Gallery is pleased to announce that this Art In Boxes 2017 is opening on Monday, November 27th. Art In Boxes (AIB) is our annual holiday group exhibition that features unique artworks from artists of various backgrounds around the world. Every year with AIB, we have been introducing over twenty artists to our Williamsburg locals and tourists. We have been offering various artworks in different artists, sizes, and prices, with a concept of one of a kind artwork for a gift to someone special.  This year makes its 9th exhibition, and we are extremely thankful for all your love and support to keep this exhibition happening for such a long period of time. This year also, we have over twenty-five artists in the exhibition with various artworks for your holiday gifts ideas including but not limited to paintings, drawings, etching prints, silkscreen prints, sculptures, and jewelries. AG Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition with artist Rica TASAKA “Embroidered NY”, openng on August 18, 2017.

Rica TASAKA is a Japanese artist who explores washi as an art medium like oil paints and clay. Tasaka’s works are made completely with only embroider and Washi-paper collage. Tasaka collects images from around the world. Based on snapshots pictures she shot in cities she visited she creates her washi-art. Tasaka explores everyday subjects in her work that make us rediscover joys and happiness that lives in small parts of our daily life in a specific location of the world.

In this exhibition Tasaka created NYC landscape series using pictures and sketches of her visit to NYC last year as inspirations. We suggest gallery visitors to get extra closer to artworks this time, and see the details. They look like illustrations at a first sight but actually collaged paper and stitchings that make those “snapshot-like” pictures.

Exhibition is on view through August 24th, 2017. Please visit the gallery and enjoy how NYC was like to a visiting artist, you may discover something similar or different from what you know.

Statement and Message from Artist

 I was born and raised in the bustling, food-centered city of Osaka, Japan in 1974.
 I spent my childhood creating unique works of art using everyday items I found around the house. Later in life, I entered the Life Design Department at the Kyoto Saga University of Arts.
 While at the university, I designed furniture and various other household goods. After graduating in 1995, I worked at a company as an interior designer.
 During that time I started working on my own art and in the process found traditional Japanese washi paper which totally changed my work. Washi paper has special textures that I can’t express using just paint. The texture and the hand-torn edges of the paper absorb and dissipate the ink in a way that makes each piece unique. I also embroider directly on the washi paper to give my work a three-dimensional texture and a visual rhythm as a single piece of art based on everyday life.
 I resigned from my company in 2000 and became a freelance illustrator. I did illustrations in various media, as I actively worked on creating solo exhibitions. In 2015, I held my first public exhibition at the Karuizawa New Art Museum in Nagano. Then I had my first exhibit in Brooklyn, New York.

 Coming to New York in 2017, greatly expanded my experience and style. The overwhelming energy of the city exhibited in its food, people, and lively culture caused me to explore a sense of movement and irregularity in my art. This has added power in addition to the sense of healing which was present in my previous work.

 I hope that whoever sees my art feels like they have made a small discovery in their lives and it causes them to smile. That’s what keeps me going as an artist.
