Things Are Actually Not Falling Apart          Solo Exhibition by Sirikul Pattachote

Exhibition On View: May 16 – May 29, 2016                                                                          Opening Reception: Tuesday, May 17 | 6-8PM

In this exhibition we focus on finding peaceful unity within the laws of living a life through artist Sirikul Pattachote’s original watercolor paintings and drawings. Sirikul’s sensitive and delicately painted works are presented quietly, but the images of fresh living flowers and dying flowers in her works leave an intense visual impression.Through her still-life paintings of flowers that she picked for one of her closest lost family members and with her imagination, you will experience the meditative message, “things are actually not falling apart”.

Sirikul Pattachote is a Thailand-born New York artist who earned her BFA from Silipakorn University of Art and Design (Bangkok). Her artwork is inspired by nature, where she draws upon memories and the experiences of her surroundings in everyday life. The ephemeral quality of life and matter is a central theme in her work. Through her paintings, she attempts to record and preserve certain memories and impressions that highlight the potential good that lies in everyone and everything. Sirikul has exhibited extensively in Southeast Asia and New York.

About Artist

Marcus Pierce is a New York based artist Marcus Pierce has worked more than fifteen years creating both public and studio figurative art. He has been awarded grants from the Boise Department of Arts and History, Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Insight the Exhibition

In this exhibition we focus on the latest painting series by Marcus Pierce. He has been working on paradoxical paintings on circular canvas. His paintings’ paradoxical subjects and the canvas shapes make a unique balance or composition that we are not used to seeing in other artists paintings. In the exhibition, each painting is connected by the artist to another painting. His work may somewhat remind of you of the Belgian Surrealist artist, Rene Magritte.

“….. One of several reasons […why I am using the circular shape], is that despite these paintings being simple in appearance, I am using a conceptual structure that is paradoxical or that embodies circular seeming reasoning. The paintings are in relation to what cognitive scientist Douglas Hofstadter refers to as a Strange Loop, a recursive form that violates hierarchy, where as one perceives oneself as getting further and further from their starting point, he/she unexpectedly arrives at their starting point. Artist Spotlight: HARIMOGURA

HARIMOGURA is an artist name of two artists Jin and Aya.

Together, they create fully hand crafted planters. They design, modeling and hand paint each planter, like a sculpture. Aya and Jin make different works. Jin is specialized in making industrial or house like shaped planters. Aya is specializing in animals.

This is very first time for them to bring their works to New York City and so that you can actually see their planters at our gallery this winter. You can also purchase their work at AG Gallery while the works are on view.

 ABOUT
"HARIMOGURA is our artist name, and it means Echidna in English.
Our small small planters are handmade. They are made of resin.
Since it is so small, you can put it on the windowsill or desk.
Even though it's so small, there is an enough presence.
Each planter is a mixed art of the artistic object and little plants, that will produce a nice space.
We have been working at a modeling company, and we have been always creating big things there.
One day, we began to make stuffs by ourselves after work. It is a small modeling that can be placed anywhere.
 Also, we love nature.
Art planter of the HARIMOGURA was created on the idea combining two different materials, resin and little plant.
We created our unique style a long time ago under the name HARIMOGURA.
We love echidna as a peaceful animal. That’s why we want to spread our own style to the world."-Jin & Aya

Art In Boxes, Post Exclusive -Closing on March 30, 2015-

Canine Universe by Raphael Balme

Canine Universe by Raphael Balme

It is March and our Art In Boxes exhibit of the post-exclusive part is nearly over! For those unfamiliar, Art In Boxes, which began during the holiday season, showcases many artists from all over the world who offers works (such a prints, zines, jewelry, and more) that would make wonderful gifts. Out of the wide variety of chosen artists we started with, many are gone but do not fret–! There are still a few left.

To start, we have Japanese artist Kazuhiro Nagi; this experimental artist created his stunning piece “Mattina” (or “Morning” in Italian) by using wafers, meant for wrapping powdered medicine, to create an explosion of bright color.
Also hailing from Japan is Kentaro Horiuchi. His psychedelic paintings use bright colors and tiny swirling detail to transport you into the unique landscape of his creations.
Within the dark and austere pages of Raphael Balme’s art-zine “Canine Universe”, you will find a dream-like world both quiet and vicious. Featured are full-page prints of Balme’s painted illustrations accompanied by handwritten commentary.
One might think of temporary tattoos as childlike, but these beautiful wearable works of art by Pepper Ink Collection are actually quite elegant. Artists offer many different designs from vintage florals and insects to more modern designs such as a geometric skull.
Villa Sorgenfrei World offers delicate, beautiful charms capture the feeling of a warm summer meadow by literally capturing wildflowers and other specimens that one might find there in tiny handblown glass baubles.
Work by these artists is still available at AG Gallery for a limited time so please come to check them out before it is too late!
