WIND IN EYES | Hiromi Machida

Exhibition On View: June 1 – June 30, 2016

Opening Reception: Saturday June 4th  6-8PM

ABOUT EXHIBITION

Wind In Eyes is a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Hiromi Machida. Machida has been exhibiting her works in galleries in Tokyo, Japan, but this is the first exhibition she is holding in USA. This exhibition features her 54 original drawings and paintings of girls, which is the main subject in her work.

Most of her works are the portrait of girls, and they are drawn as if in fusion with the distinct Modigliani’s female portraits and with features of female characters in Japanese Modern and also Showa-period animation. Rather than femininity or sexuality, which are popular discussions in today’s art scene, her subjects of those portraits are social matters and problems. Using innocent looking girls as a symbol, she talks about social situations and problems, such as air pollution, which are surrounding her at the present moment. If we look closely at the eyes in these portraits, we will notice the world that has been projected into their eyes. Her unusual style of painting and line drawing with modified shapes of girls are what we believe to be one of the latest in contemporary art.

Silkscreen 1985

Original Silkscreen Prints by Ken Brown
On View: March 13 – March 31, 2016

AG Gallery is now showing Ken Brown’s 1985 silkscreen prints collection. The exhibition focuses on Ken Brown’s silkscreen prints most of which are made in the year 1985. The work is on view from Sunday March 13, 2016 – Thursday, March 31, 2016.

KEN BROWN (1944|Ohio USA), an American filmmaker, photographer, cartoonist, and designer, who has been a street photographer documenting mostly NYC almost for 40 years. Around 1985, he made archival silkscreen prints as one of his creative projects. Although the unique or peculiar prints still look timelessly joyful today, they are indeed made back in 1985, and that is the only period he produced large silkscreen prints.

Artist Spotlight: HARIMOGURA

HARIMOGURA is an artist name of two artists Jin and Aya.

Together, they create fully hand crafted planters. They design, modeling and hand paint each planter, like a sculpture. Aya and Jin make different works. Jin is specialized in making industrial or house like shaped planters. Aya is specializing in animals.

This is very first time for them to bring their works to New York City and so that you can actually see their planters at our gallery this winter. You can also purchase their work at AG Gallery while the works are on view.

 ABOUT
"HARIMOGURA is our artist name, and it means Echidna in English.
Our small small planters are handmade. They are made of resin.
Since it is so small, you can put it on the windowsill or desk.
Even though it's so small, there is an enough presence.
Each planter is a mixed art of the artistic object and little plants, that will produce a nice space.
We have been working at a modeling company, and we have been always creating big things there.
One day, we began to make stuffs by ourselves after work. It is a small modeling that can be placed anywhere.
 Also, we love nature.
Art planter of the HARIMOGURA was created on the idea combining two different materials, resin and little plant.
We created our unique style a long time ago under the name HARIMOGURA.
We love echidna as a peaceful animal. That’s why we want to spread our own style to the world."-Jin & Aya
