Coming Up: Cats Diary | Agnes Bodor

January 15, 2023 ~ February 28, 2023

AG Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition Cats Diary by Agnes Bodor opening on January 15, 2023. Agnes Bodor is an artist and painter based in Seattle, Washington. Bodor has been making watercolor paintings of cats and landscapes and AG Gallery has been presenting her cats series in several exhibitions. Her work is deeply inspired by Japanese Ink paintings and you can see the influence in her cat paintings. Some collectors and visitors of AG Gallery ask us if the artist is an Asian artist which we enjoy their reaction when they realize that there are artists who create their unique work with inspiration from different countries. We enjoy presenting her and her work while explaining to our visitors how Japanese ink art is made. For time we are pleased to exhibit a series of her new cats paintings she created inspired by her cats and some wild cats that live around her home. We look forward to seeing you visiting the AG Gallery very soon.

“I started specifically paint cats in 2014, but I painted some even when I was a kid. My high school was art specialized, but then I went to a science university and have a doctor degree in neurobiology and that is my normal day job.”

RATS RECONSIDERED | Erica Linnemann

“RATSRECONSIDERED” | Drawings by ERICA LINNEMANN

Saturday, September 24, 2022 ~

AG Gallery is pleased to announce “RATS RECONSIDERED,” Erica Linnemann’s second and largest solo exhibition, is opening on Monday, September 19, 2022. This collection of over 80 original drawings, of varying sizes and presented in rare vintage frames, will be exhibited in the gallery space downstairs along with the gallery window space.

“RATS RECONSIDERED” is a tribute to Bruce Nauman’s 1988 piece titled, “I LEARNED HELPLESSNESS FROM RATS.” This exhibition begs onlookers to delicately ruminate on the City’s loathsome, formidable, underground cohabitants and concede to man’s parallels with such vermin. Erica Linnemann is a Brooklyn-based line illustrator whose characters embody some of the tender, embarrassing, turgid and uncomfortable intimations of urban existence. Please contact the staff with purchase inquiries.

ABOUT ARTIST

Erica Linnemann is an illustrator based in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Her work attempts to render, both gently and satirically, some of the routine, yet unspoken, labors of urban existence, at times unveiling feelings of bruised resolve, disarming chagrin and unquenched desperation. The brute, turbulent quality of one drawing might provoke troubling musings, while the unapologetic simplicity of another churns the comforts of ignorance.

This exhibition is a first solo exhibition of Pinkpill Design at AG Gallery which we have been anticipated to realize ever since we introduced their work in one of our past group exhibitions. In this PIKUNIKKU, you are invited to see Pinkpill Design’s latest silkscreen prints and some older original silkscreen prints, all of which carry some Japanese culture that the artists love. The title Piknikku (ピクニック) is a Japanese word of Picnic. The beautiful weather and the grass and flowers are back in New York City and it is the perfect season for some picnic. Please bring your friends and enjoy seeing Pinkpill’s artwork that came all the way from Czech Republic.

In their work, there are Japanese words, items, fashion, classic everyday foods (such as Onigiri), and traditional ideas (such as Kintsugi) depicted in their work. Please do not hesitate to ask our gallery staff about the meaning or the background of what you see in the exhibition. As a Japanese-run art gallery in New York City, we are always excited to see Japanese essence in new art. We enjoy and are passionate to be a place to exhibit such art from diverse artists to the diverse visitors at AG Gallery.
